Falmouth Packet Ship CIC is the base of a feasibility study into the possible building of a replica of Walsingham, a Packet Ship originally built in 1795 for use in the Packet Service out of Falmouth.
Packet Ships were used by the UK Government to send mail across the world in the period between 1699 to 1851 when the service was taken over by steam ships.
The aim of the project is to bring new jobs to Falmouth, offer boatbuilding apprenticeships, and provide a wooden sailing vessel that would be used as an educational tool to foster interest in traditional boatbuilding techniques, a sail-training vessel and a green alternative to transporting cargo around the world, flying the flag for Falmouth, Cornwall and the UK.
