Do you want to make a difference in your workplace by actively promoting a greener, more sustainable culture and working environment?  Do you want to inspire environmental responsibility in the workplace?

Regardless of whether you are a business owner, a senior decision-maker within a business, or an ambassador for sustainability, this inclusive Level 3 accredited course will help you gain knowledge, skills and understanding to support sustainability in the workplace.


About The Course

Delivered online via Zoom, this course will take a look at the challenges of sustainability in the workplace, the global and national environmental standards and legislation, and the principles and approaches of greening the workplace.

Participants will be introduced to sustainable transport and alternative fuels, inspiring environmental responsibility in the workplace, and the diverse topic of heat decarbonisation.

Learners will leave the course with both an understanding of the impact of energy generation and the skillsets needed to innovate and embed sustainable practices and cultures in the workplace.

Upon completion of the course, you will receive an e-certificate (a paper certificate can be sent out upon request) that will enhance your CV and support your career progression.


Outcomes

During the ‘Certificate in Championing Sustainability in the Workplace’ course, learners will investigate and develop an understanding of:

  • Heat decarbonisation
  • The challenges of sustainability in the workplace
  • Global and national environmental standards and legislation
  • Greening the workplace
  • Inspiring environmental responsibility in the workplace
  • Sustainable transport
  • The impact of energy generation

Upon completion of the course, you will receive an e-certificate (a paper certificate can be sent out upon request) that will enhance your CV and support your career progression.


Requirements

A natural progression from the Level 2 Sustainability and the Built Environment course or similar equivalent training, this course takes a closer look at how you can lead the change in your workplace in order to improve its green credentials and presence of sustainability.

Learners MUST be competent in the use of video conferencing software (Zoom/Microsoft Teams) and word processing software, such as Microsoft Word, for assessment purposes.

A certain level of commitment will be expected – we recommend dedicating 4-5 hours a week to your studies.  All activities will take place online, so please make sure you have a stable Internet connection and suitable equipment (ie. webcam, microphone) to participate in group discussions.


Learning Experience

This course, including all activities and assessments, will be delivered flexibly and entirely online without any need to come to a classroom.

You will benefit from a Course Tutor/Assessor who will provide academic guidance throughout your training, from beginning to end.  Your Tutor/Assessor will comment on the discussions held and provide feedback on all tasks and activities throughout.


Progression

Following the completion of the course, you will have the knowledge and foundations needed to naturally progress on to FE or HE studies in Environmental Science or Environmental Sustainability.  Higher Apprenticeships or Degree Apprenticeships in similar fields are also available.

Alternatively, there are also numerous short courses covering specific topics within Green Skills/Sustainability which you could progress onto to expand your knowledge and awareness further.

  • Hydrogen and fuel cells
  • Electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure
  • Sustainable modes of transport

Module 6:    The Impact of Energy Generation

  • Fossil fuels in the transition to renewable energy
  • Environmental cost of nuclear power production
  • Green energy generation
  • How workplaces can access sustainable energy sources

Module 7:     Heat Decarbonisation

  • The role of fossil fuels for heat production in the workplace
  • Alternative heating technologies in the workplace
  • Current alternative methods of reducing heat consumption
  • Why some countries are prioritising heat debarbonisation

Module 8:     Sustainable Construction

  • The roles of different stakeholders in sustainable construction
  • Environmental impact of current methods of construction

Module 9:     Biodiversity in the Workplace and the Community

  • Benefits of biodiversity for the environment
  • Promoting biodiversity through the workplace and the community

Module 10:   Sustainable Food

  • Reviewing the impact of the global food supply chain

  • Reducing carbon footprints and promoting the use of lower carbon foods
  • Unsustainable food packaging

Module 11 –   Sustainable Water Management in the Workplace

  • How water is used in the workplace
  • Creating a strategy to reduce water consumption within the workplace
  • How workplaces can improve water management
