A rare opportunity has arisen for a permanent full time Maritime Assistant to assist with the running of Newquay Harbour. The postholder will be required to work 37 hours per week, which will include weekends during the busy summer season. Actual days can be negotiable, but flexibility will be required to meet the needs to the service.
Working with the harbour master, the duties will include all aspects of running the harbour, from general maintenance, byelaw enforcement, collection of harbour dues and to be a point of contact for all harbour users. This will be mainly based at Newquay but within the winter months you will be required to assist within any of the Ports and Harbours of Truro, Penryn, Penzance, St Ives, Newquay, Bude, Portscatho, Portreath, the Prince of Wales Pier and other maritime assets within Cornwall if required.
This is an interesting and varied post and we are looking for an enthusiastic person who can show a genuine interest in working within a marine environment. You should have some prior experience of working within maritime industry, including marine maintenance, excellent customer care skills and the ability to work on your own initiative.
If you would like an informal discussion regarding this post please email us at harbouroffice@cornwall.gov.uk with your contact details and one of the Maritime Team will be in touch.
