Exciting New Funding Opportunity: Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition (CMDC) Round 7

CMN is pleased to advise that Round 7 of the Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition (CMDC) is now open for applications. As part of the UK SHORE programme, this initiative provides vital grant funding to accelerate the UK’s transition to Net Zero by 2050 through the real-world testing of innovative maritime technologies.

To help you prepare, University of Exeter, in partnership with Innovate UK, are hosting a face-to-face briefing event at the Penryn Campus on Wednesday 1st April (8:00 am – 10:30 am). This will include speakers from the Department for Transport (DfT) and Innovate UK to provide further information on application requirements.

This round is divided into three distinct strands depending on the maturity and scale of projects:
- Strand 1: Deployment Trials – For near-market technologies ready for real-world operational testing.
- Project Size: £3m – £15m.
- Apply for Strand 1 here.
- Strand 2: Pre-deployment Trials – Designed to bridge the gap between prototyping and full-scale demonstration (TRL 5-7).
- Project Size: £750k – £6m.

- Strand 3: Feasibility Studies – For earlier-stage research (TRL 3-4) to test the technical and economic viability of a solution.
- Project Size: £100k – £1m.

Key Information:
- Deadline: Wednesday 15th July at 11am.
- Eligibility: Projects must be led by a UK-registered business and involve collaboration with other UK entities.
- Location: All project work must be carried out within the UK.
- Project Scope: Focus areas include zero-emission propulsion (hydrogen, batteries, etc.), port infrastructure, and smart shipping.
- Grant funding: The percentage of funding available with vary depending on the strand and size of business applying.
