Fugro are recruiting an experienced Senior Proposal Manager to join our team based from either of our Wallingford, Falmouth or Consett offices.
Working as a pivotal part of the team within our UK land & coastal site investigation commercial team, you will primarily be responsible for writing proposals for UK land and coastal based geotechnical projects, while maintaining excellent relationships with clients, responding to enquiries and identifying future opportunities for Fugro.
As part of the UK land & coastal site investigation commercial team you will be involved in tendering for a variety of projects including renewables, energy, and infrastructure projects.
Your key responsibilities will include the review of client provided Invitations to Tender (ITT) and using your technical and commercial knowledge to plan surveys by engaging relevant internal stakeholders, assigning relevant resources, identifying areas of innovation, preparing schedules, building prices, identifying project risks, writing the tender documents and liaising with clients.

- You come from a geotechnical or civil engineering background with a good understanding of the principles of commercial tenderin; and
- You have a commercial, project management or civil engineering sales background.
Who you’ll be working with:
Working within the UK land & coastal site investigation commercial team you will work with multiple departments including Technical, Operations, Commercial, Tax, Legal and Strategic Sales & Marketing from offices across the UK to ensure alignment and cohesion of Fugro’s proposed solution.
More locally, you will need to consult heavily with geotechnical operational teams and project delivery teams within our UK offices to ensure proposed solutions are safe, profitable and risk is appropriately mitigated. There will also be opportunities to engage with our global offices to find the optimal proposal structure for projects outside of the UK.
Here’s what a typical day would be like:
- Leading and monitoring proposal coordination, reviewing Invitations to Tender, checking technical and commercial requirements, and raising any issues to management;
- Preparing bid/no bid analysis and completing tender signoffs with senior management;
- Acting as a point of contact for the wider Fugro team for the production of proposals and input into wider Fugro Group tenders;
- Evaluating technical and commercial risk, ensuring those risks are accepted, managed, priced, or transferred as appropriate;
- Conducting commercial and technical negotiations with clients to secure contract award ensures that proposed solutions are safe, profitable, and mitigated risks; and
- Preparing and presenting technical and commercial tender handover packages to project Managers for kick off meetings in line with the Fugro PM Handbook and LSC systems.
Who we’re looking for:
Essential
- BSc or equivalent qualification in Engineering Geology, Geotechnics or Civil Engineering or relevant equivalent commercial, management or sales experience.
- Extensive experience in a similar industry.
Skilled strategic problem solver with excellent interpersonal and written communication with a methodical common-sense approach and strong attention to detail - Client orientated approach.
- Motivated and enthusiastic with a drive to succeed across a multi-disciplinary team.
- Strong numeracy skills with good Microsoft Office capabilities in particular Excel, MS Project and O365 software
- Experience of producing written deliverables.
Desirable
- Experience writing or costing commercial proposals
- Ability to think outside the box and design innovative solutions or schedules
- Business development and negotiation experience
