CMN got in touch with Shannon Matthews who has recently undertaken a Early Years Educator Level 3 Apprenticeship with Hawksfield Nursery.
What do you do within the organisation?
As a Level 3 Early Years Educator Apprentice, I help children reach their milestones, encourage their learning and development, supporting them with their individual needs and personal care.
What is the purpose of your role and how does it assist with the business’s mission?
My purpose is to help children reach their milestones, support them, help them thrive through play, ensure I have a good understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
Which elements of your apprenticeship do you feel you have learnt most?
I feel like all the elements of the apprenticeship have been helpful as it is has moulded me into the practitioner I am.
Would you recommend apprenticeships? If so, why?
Yes, I would recommend an apprenticeship because you can learn all the knowledge and actually see what you learn happen in day to day life whilst working.
Any personal wins?
Getting a Distinction in my Professional Discussion.
If you could give one piece of advice to anyone thinking about undertaking an apprenticeship, what would it be?
Just do it, it’s the most amazing thing learning all the knowledge and then seeing it all unfold in real life in the work environment.
If you could go back and give yourself one piece of advice before embarking on your apprenticeship journey, what would it be?
Keep pushing through – some units you may struggle with, but that is ok.
Has this apprenticeship helped you on your career path?
Yes – it has helped me gain a qualification and do my dream career.
What progression routes are available?
There are so many – after the Level 3, you could do the Level 5 Early Years Lead Practitioner Apprenticeship if you wanted.
