The role
Fugro is now recruiting a Maintenance Workshop Supervisor to join our Falmouth workshop team. Our Falmouth workshop manufactures new build, bespoke over water drilling equipment such as the industry leading VBM3000 for the offshore wind farms. The equipment is Fabricated, Painted, fitted out (Mechanically & Hydraulically), Electrical installs & fully assembled in our large yard for testing and commissioning prior to shipping out to site.
Falmouth workshops also overhaul existing equipment that is returned from site works, this gives us a continual stream of work throughout the year.
We are now looking for someone to work within our Workshop that can carry out the overall management of the fitting department carrying out new build or the R&M of existing equipment’s, ensure the quality of the equipment’s leaving the department, its durability and the elimination/reduction of down time is vital for service line operations
Ensuring health and safety remains a priority, always complying with procedures, method statements and standards. Leading your team by example with TBT’s and contribute to WS improvements and enforce the use of mandatory PPE and task specific PPE
Have a sound understanding of the Hydraulic and Mechanical Discipline of new and existing drilling equipment and ancillary plant; propose practical solutions in a wide variety of situations to staff and clearly communicate issues to plan managers or WSM
To ensure the department plant, equipment and tools are fit for purpose, and looked after, reporting any loss or damages.
To manage parts, requests form the department staff and prepare purchase requests for parts where necessary. Manage requests for parts for tasks from stores, manage the parts once drawn and ensure staff take ownership of components through the build lifecycle.
Allocate a suitable working area for the department staff, carefully managing floor space or workspaces, taking into consideration environmental impacts on the task to hand and lifting operations or movements.
Allocate suitable staff to tasks to meet deliverables set out and offered with the workshop management team.
Ensure a good level of productivity from the department staff
Source information to carry out the task such as manuals or detailed work instructions
Complete all tasks assign in the WS schedule and communicate and agree any deviation from this with the WSM in advance of any change.
To work to the tolerances and specifications given by design or senior instruction within the workshop QA, requesting any concessions our of spec with WSM
Appropriate QA prior to dispatch must be agreed and documented before any items leave the workshop
Ensure task specific documentation is correctly filled out by department staff such as PM7 maintenance reports.
Report any QA issues to the WSM and offering solution to overcome.

Ability to positively direct, mentor, coach and train the development of the team, where needed.
Who you’ll be working with:
Internally you will work closely with Workshop Manager, Production Manager, Department Supervisors, Plant supervisors and Department staff. Externally liaising with site clients.
Here’s what a typical day would be like:
Working closely with the Workshop Management (WSM) and communicating progress and any issues around production, staffing levels/competency, supply of parts or quality issues.
Ensuring Health and Safety remains paramount by following procedures, method statements and driving high standards
Close links between departments for flow of works, Clear Communication and forward planning between departments is key to deliverable dates.
Advising Plant managers on best course of action based on initial inspections of plant equipment’s, based on budget, time restraints or duration of project.
Communicate and assign daily tasks to all staff, ensuring all resources and safety provided to carry out their duties. – This is communicated by daily briefings.
Monitor tasks and support any technical queries.
Liaise with good/outwards for components
Managed and monitor timesheet processes and allocated to cost codes.
Sign off tasks following work schedule
Monitor and check quality of work and productivity within the workshop.
Reporting and rectifying maintenance of workshop equipment and plant, eliminating any health and safety risks
Communicating work instructions to teams and ensuring requirements of the tasks are being met
Liaising and assisting workshop manager with reports on progress
Recording and monitoring plant defects
Who we’re looking for:
Essential
GCSEs or equivalent in Maths and English & Science grade c or above
3 – 8 years’ experience within Mechanical & Hydraulic Fitting
Up to 3 years’ experience of leadership ‘supervising a team of 6 – 12 staff including sub-contractors.
BFPA NFPA Hydraulic Trained.
NVQ 3 – 4; Time-served apprentice or equivalent training/experience
Significant experience working in a busy workshop
Full UK Clean Driving license
Practical hands-on person.
