Cornish businesses eligible for the Government’s Restart Grant will begin to receive their payments from Monday 12 April, Cornwall Council has confirmed.

The Restart Grant is a one-off grant to support eligible rate-paying businesses in reopening safely as coronavirus restrictions are lifted. The Council is making payments within a week of receiving the funding from Government.

Where possible, the Council will make automatic payments to eligible businesses – those who have already received a Local Restrictions Support Grant (LRSG) will not need to apply.

Businesses which believe they may be eligible for a payment, but have not applied to the LRSG scheme, can complete an application form available at http://www.cornwall.gov.uk/BusinessSupportGrant

The Restart Grant will be distributed in two strands based on a businesses’ rateable value:

  • Up to £6,000 for businesses in the non-essential retail sector
  •  Up to £18,000 for businesses in the hospitality, accommodation, leisure, personal care and gym sector

Additional Restrictions Grant

Cornwall Council has paid out around £14,269,550 to 3,963 businesses under the Additional Restriction Grant scheme.

As announced in the Chancellor’s budget in March, a further £425m of funding will be provided to local authorities to continue to assist those impacted by the coronavirus pandemic but not necessarily forced to shut. Cornwall Council’s allocation is £4,427,419, and we are looking at options to distribute this money as soon as possible.

We will update our website with further information as soon as possible.
