Falmouth School of Sailing – 2026 RYA Instructor Training Courses.
We are pleased to announce that we will be running the following RYA Instructor Courses in 2026:
*RYA Cruising Instructor Course – Monday 2nd – Friday 6th March, 2026
At Falmouth School of Sailing, your first step to teaching within the RYA Practical Cruising Scheme is to become a Cruising Instructor, with the option to progress to Yachtmaster Instructor.
Instructor courses are intensive, with limited time to fill gaps in knowledge. Candidates are assessed on their skills and understanding while learning how to structure lessons, coach effectively, and deliver constructive feedback. Strong prior knowledge and practical experience are essential.
**RYA Teaching in the Classroom (TIC) – Monday 6th July, 2026
The Teaching in the Classroom (TIC) course develops the key skills required to become a classroom-based RYA instructor. A pre-course online module introduces the fundamentals of learning theory and provides practical techniques for student-centered teaching. These techniques are then applied, practiced, and refined during the one-day classroom session.
**RYA Navigation Instructor Course – Tuesday 7th – Wednesday 8th July, 2026
This is a two-day course, primarily designed for those new to teaching RYA Shorebased courses, though experienced instructors are also welcome. The course combines assessment of knowledge and instructing ability with guidance on the structure and standards required for teaching. Candidates must arrive with sufficient underpinning knowledge.
**RYA SRC Assessor Course – Thursday 9th – Friday 10th July, 2026
The SRC Assessor (VHF Instructor) course is a classroom-based programme combining training and assessment. The course includes discussions on the running of RYA Short Range Certificate courses, the syllabus, required equipment, and available teaching resources.
