Developing the skills businesses need to transition to a circular economy

Arca – Italian for ark – is a new research project aimed at accelerating circular skills for Cornwall and Isles of Scilly. The project is part-funded through the European Social Fund and forms part of the European Strategic Investment Framework for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. Arca will work with local businesses to co-design workshops and training programmes for individuals, microbusinesses and SMEs in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

‘Arca is a fantastic opportunity to support Cornish businesses to develop the skills they need to transition to a circular economy,’ explains Stefano Pascucci, Head of Sustainable Futures at University of Exeter and Professor in Sustainability and Circular Economy, who is leading the project. ‘It is clear that if we continue with our current linear economy, we will not be able to remain within planetary boundaries. The transition to a circular economy is not a matter of choice. It is a necessity.’

Arca will offer a range of training programmes and workshops covering topics such as:

  • Principles of the circular economy
  • Circular design
  • Circular business models
  • Change management
  • Emotional intelligence

Delivery of workshops begins in March 2022. The project ends in December 2023.
