Last week, Network Members and local business leaders joined the CMN team on board HMS Scott as we celebrated reaching the milestone of creating 5,000 jobs within the sector.
Commander Tom Becker and his team welcomed our guests to the vessel, currently docked with A&P in Falmouth.
CMN were thrilled to receive congratulation videos from Keir Mather MP – Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Aviation, Maritime and Decarbonisation at the Department for Transport, Jayne Kirkham – MP for Falmouth and Truro and Chris Shirling-Rooke MBE, CEO of our governing body, Maritime UK. Cornwall Marine Network CEO Paul Wickes MBE said:
‘It was an honour for our amazing team to host our members aboard HMS Scott and we send a big thank you to Commander Tom Becker and his team for their kind hospitality, to Lt Cdr Trevor Brookes for coordinating the involvement of the Royal Navy, and to Mike Spicer and his A&P team for ensuring all guests were safe in a very busy Port and the logistics worked like clockwork on the day.
Finally, a huge thank you to all our loyal Members who attended the celebration event. operational logistics meant we weren’t able to invite all 400 members, but the celebration is the culmination of how we have all worked so hard together over the last 20 years to drive economic growth in Cornwall, increase skills and apprenticeships and create 5000 new jobs.
Our celebration toast after the presentations was to work together for the next milestone of 6,000 jobs’, and we all remain committed to championing the marine sector in Cornwall for many years to come.’
