At this time of year, our team take time to reflect upon the good things we have… like our wonderful members, partners and stakeholders. We appreciate working with you all and hope that the holidays and the coming year will bring you good health, happiness and success

As 2025 draws to a close, our marine sector has much to celebrate with members reporting a stronger year, our marine leisure sector seeing better numbers than in 2024 and despite ongoing economic challenges, Cornwall Marine sector continues to grow and innovate.

 

Over the last few months, CMN and our members have been instrumental in feeding into and leading ‘Cornwall Maritime Futures’ plan and survey and we’ll be releasing the full report in early January with priority actions wide ranging, including marine infrastructure development, business support, skills support and strategic collaboration:

 

 

Earlier in the year, Cornwall Marine Academy were announced winners of the prestigious Maritime UK Future Skills award. The award recognised CMA’s tangible contribution to meeting the future skills needs of the sector, delivering pioneering activity across education, training and apprenticeship development and delivery,

 

 

 

Our employer led apprenticeship model and CMN Centres of Excellence went from strength to strength as Cockwells welcomed Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal who opened the Cockwells Training Academy, powered by Cornwall Marine Network.

 

 

And this Autumn, CMN alongside it’s members announced that over the last 20 years 5,000 jobs have been created within Cornwall’s marine sector, a huge milestone and one that received congratulations from across the maritime sector including messages from the Maritime Minister, MP’s and industry leaders.

For 2026 optimism is increasing with significant growth for specialist boat builders and manufacturers, the wider blue and green agenda, future fuels including hybrid options and hydrogen, aquaculture, ocean health and well-being. The further development of new green marine skills, together with the move towards maritime Net Zero and clean maritime alongside development of those priority areas including marine infrastructure development, business and skills support, supply chain and strategic collaboration.

Each year we make donations to local marine charities. This year we have decided to share the donations with the Mission for Seafarers and the RNLI. This continues our support for engaging young people and people with a disability, supporting safety and the people who work at sea.

Our offices will be closed between 23rd December 2024 and 2nd January 2026.
