Instilling confidence through competence is the purpose of the Children’s Sailing Trust. An RYA recognized training centre and On Board Partner this imaginative charity gives children and young people from across Mid and West Cornwall the age of 8 upwards the opportunity to learn to sail, kayak and row free of charge on the Helford River.
Since its Foundation in 1997, the Trust has provided lessons for over 5,000 children some of whom have gone on to hone their skills as teenagers through our Youth Sailing course, many becoming volunteers and Sailing Instructors themselves. Currently serving 23 primary schools, 2 alternative provision academies and 3 SEND organizations, its team of 7 professional RYA qualified Instructors are supported by coordinators and volunteers from each school. Many of these dedicated volunteers have achieved training and professional qualifications through adult RYA courses also run by CST. The Trust fundraises each year to cover the costs of providing lessons and welcomes donations from individuals and companies towards this very worthwhile community project.
